Start with ride height, not with the door
A rear-engine diesel coach sits on air bags with leveling valves that hold a target ride height. When one valve drifts or a bag develops a slow leak, the coach settles unevenly and the entire body goes slightly out of square. Doors bind, bay doors sit proud on one edge, and a slide that cycled perfectly last season now catches at a corner.
Owners bring those symptoms to us as body complaints. Perhaps a third of the time the body is fine and the air system is the whole story. Checking static ride height at all four corners, then rechecking after the coach has sat overnight, separates a suspension problem from a structural one in about twenty minutes and prevents a very expensive misdiagnosis.
Hydraulic leveling jacks add a second variable. Deploying them on a slope, or extending one corner far beyond the others, twists the frame while the coach is parked. Do that repeatedly over years and the body settles into that twist. Bay door alignment drift is usually the first visible evidence. Sequencing the jacks properly on a slope takes half a minute and prevents years of that.
Why full-body paint is the expensive part
These coaches are painted end to end, with graphics sprayed as layers rather than applied as vinyl. That construction is beautiful and it is unforgiving. A repair that would be a two-panel blend on a decaled coach becomes a multi-stage layout job here, because the graphic has to be re-created in the right sequence with the right edge quality before any clear goes on.
California sun does specific damage. South-facing panels and the upper radius above the sidewall take the most ultraviolet exposure, and the failure shows as clear coat delamination that starts as a dull patch and then lifts at an edge. Once it lifts, spot repair rarely holds, because the surrounding film has already lost adhesion even where it still looks intact.
Colour match across a 45-foot run is genuinely harder than the bodywork. Two panels sprayed from the same mix can read differently if the flash times differ, so we control panel temperature, spray direction, and overlap deliberately and check the result outdoors before reassembly. A booth that looks perfect can hide a half step of difference that shows instantly in a parking lot.
Slide rooms and the rear cap
Triple slide layouts put large, heavy rooms on mechanisms carrying them cantilevered out of the sidewall. Over time the room floor sags at the outboard edge, the top seal loses contact, and water finds the opening. Adjusting the mechanism without addressing the sag treats the wrong thing. We support the room, check the floor structure, and set the seal contact with the room cycled under its own weight.
The rear cap on a pusher lives behind a hot engine and hosts a large access hatch. Heat cycling ages the sealant around that opening faster than anywhere else on the coach, and the hatch itself gets latched carelessly by anyone checking coolant. Cracks at the hatch corners and a soft, chalky finish on the lower rear are the usual findings.
Rear impacts on these coaches deserve extra scrutiny because the engine, radiator, and charge air cooler live in that zone. Even a low-speed hit can shift a mount or pinch a cooling stack fin pack. We document that area carefully during teardown so the claim reflects it rather than surfacing as a supplement later. Photographs of the cooling stack and its mounts go into the file before anything is removed.

That pattern almost always points at the air suspension rather than the body. A bag or leveling valve is bleeding down, the coach settles unevenly, and the door aperture goes slightly out of square until the system repressurizes. We verify ride height at all four corners cold, then look at valves and bags. Chasing the door first wastes money.
Can you match painted graphics, or do they have to be redone across the whole side?
Painted graphics can be re-created and blended, and how far the work extends depends on where the damage falls. A break in the middle of a broad sweep may blend within a panel. A break at a stripe transition usually means carrying the layout to the next natural break point so the geometry stays right. We map that before spraying anything.
Is clear coat peeling on the roof edge repairable, or does the coach need everything?
It depends on adhesion in the surrounding area. We test film adhesion beyond the visible failure, because ultraviolet damage extends past what your eye sees. If the neighboring film still holds well, a bounded repair is reasonable. If it lifts with tape, spot work will fail within a season and a larger refinish is the honest recommendation.
Do you work on the engine or the generator on a pusher?
